H.R. 669 update "Make no mistake … HR 669 is still on the books in Congress … In reality, the only way it can actually go away is for it to expire at the end of the 111th session of Congress with no further action." - Adam Wysocki of www.nohr669.com

4/23/09 WE HAD A GREAT DAY - "It seems that the plan of the subcommittee at this point is to get together all of the relevant parties and have them sit down and work out real solutions to the problems with HR 669 in an attempt to go forward responsibly. How long will that take? Well, stand by … it could be a two weeks, a month, or 6 months … but at some point, and in some form, I’m sure that we’ll see HR 669 again. Of course, NOHR669.com will be ready to get everyone rolling, so keep checking back for updates about what we’re going to do NEXT!" - Adam Wysocki of www.nohr669.com

Thu Apr 23, 2009 7:27 pm VICTORY over HR669! - "Our success should be measured, because the proponents of HR 669 will be back soon with another version of the same legislation. They will not rest, so we must not rest either. Take satisfaction in a job well done and a victory well deserved, but know we all must rise up again to fight on because the battle has just begun!" - Tom Wolfe of USARK (United States Association of Reptile Keepers)

    Update April 23, 2009 Congressional Hearing H. R. 669 - PetHobbyist.com Blog

In The House Committee on Natural Resources Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife hearing on H.R. 669 on April 23, 2009 Representative Henry E. Brown, Jr., Republican from South Carolina, ranking member, “recommends that instead of an approved list we encourage the development of a non-approved list. We can remove invasive species without destroying the entire pet industry”.
H.R. 669 Related - H.R. 669 is being voted on during the 111th 1st session of Congress and the date on the bill is January 26, 2009. Not very surprisingly there was a H.R. 6311 in the 110th Congress 2nd Session and the date of the bill is June 19, 2008. The H.R. 669 is 23 pages while the H. R. 6311 was only 16 pages. It seems that if the bill wasn't targeting the "pet" industry a FEW SIMPLY PARAGRAHS would be ALL that was needed to clarify this. Seems like the democrats involved just won't drop this. This is very serious please call your representative and tell them that you oppose H.R. 669 and ask them to record your opinion. They must ask for your full name and address to record this. If you were thinking about sending letters by USPS your representative won't get them before the April 23rd hearing because it takes a week or two to get through biosecurity which involves opening and x-raying the letter. Faxes are GREAT!

Ever wonder why the sponsor of this bill, Madeleine Bordallo, a United States Democrat Delegate of Guam cares about invasive species in the United States? The Brown Tree Snake which is native to Australia arrived in Guam inside imported Cargo in the 1950's. The snake killed off ten of the thirteen native species of forest birds and nine out of twelve of the native species of lizard. Being a tree snake, it does often climb up power lines, which has resulted in numerous power outages, including island wide ones. The total cost of this snake to Guam yearly is twelve million dollars. Source

        (5) NONNATIVE WILDLIFE SPECIES.—The term ‘‘nonnative wildlife species’’—

        (D) does not include any cat (Felis catus), cattle or oxen (Bos taurus), chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus), dog (Canis lupus familiaris), donkey or ass (Equus asinus), domesticated members of the family Anatidae (geese), duck (domesticated Anas spp.), goat (Capra aegagrus hircus), goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus), horse (Equus caballus), llama (Lama glama), mule or hinny (Equus caballus x E. asinus), pig or hog (Sus scrofa domestica), domesticated varieties of rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), or sheep (Ovis aries), or any other species or variety of species that is determined by the Secretary to be common and clearly domesticated.
